New Black-owned Streaming Service, BlackOakTV Now Available to Subscribers

BlackOakTV takes off with three original series on February 5 and has 15 more scheduled to release later in 2021.

Founded by industry veteran Uzo Ometu, the black-owned streaming service started as a YouTube channel of Black content by independent artists. The streaming service will exclusively feature original content by Black creators. BlackOakTV seeks to answer the call of Black people across the globe for more content that tells Black stories with Black voices. Ometu will be collaborating with independent Black creators to produce the 18-show lineup and more.

In addition to wanting to create excellent Black content, he wants to ensure today’s Black creators will become popular black showrunners and filmmakers tomorrow.

BlackOakTV’s Current Lineup Now Available to Subscribers

In January 2020, BlackOakTV’s YouTube channel gave viewers a brilliant web series, The Closet Bitch, from actress Shana Soloman and filmmaker William Alexander Runnels. We’re hoping to see more from Soloman and Runnels. But for now, here’s the current BlackOakTV lineup.

Untold Stories with Unknown People

Untold Stories is an anthological mocumentary series by Dormtainment, a Black comedy troupe with over 1 million YouTube Subscribers. The show is a hilariously bold and risqué series that satirizes eight culturally significant stories and documentaries of the past decade including Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, The Last Dance, and McMillions.

The Retreat

The Retreat is a suspenseful series that centers on a group of women uncovering schemes and betrayals after a damning secret is revealed while on an artists’ retreat. The Retreat was created, written, and executed by an all-black woman cast and crew, and led by Nuanse Entertainment’s Ashley Denise and Ricki Lynée.

First Dates (Season 2)

Co-created by DGA award-winning director Talibah Newman, “First Dates” is a black sitcom about Samantha (Angela Wildflower), a political consultant, who is left navigating her life, career, and serial dating adventures after an abrupt split from her husband. The second season of “First Dates” resumes with Samantha licking her wounds from months of bad dates and the revelation of an illness she is not prepared for.

Viewers can subscribe to the beta subscription at the introductory price of $4.99 per month, gaining access to a powerful and growing library of black content featuring short films, movies, web series, and original black shows from some of the most talented up-and-coming black filmmakers and creators.
